Studio BV is a Twin Cities based architecture and design firm. Betsy Vohs founded the business in 2015 with an emphasis on creating a transformational experience for clients. She was looking for an Accountant and Advisory partner who would not only provide Accounting and Payroll services but also advise on financial decisions, provide insight into how the business runs, and allow her to focus more time on design work and expanding the firm.
Betsy turned to Olsen Thielen and Principal Tom Pesch, CPA/CGMA, CMA to fill this role. Tom was instrumental in strategic planning during initial business set-up and supplied valuable insight into business structure options. Through a deep understanding of Studio BV’s business goals, Tom was able to help Betsy set the stage for rapid growth of the firm and Studio BV began taking on additional employees just four months later.
Throughout the years, Olsen Thielen continued to play a valuable role for Studio BV. According to Betsy, “The importance of having one trusted advisor who is committed to the success of the business cannot be overstated. The Accounting world is complex and consistently changing. This is a valuable relationship that requires a lot of trust and Tom provided that for Studio BV.”
Providing creative design work for her clients wasn’t enough for Betsy. She always had a goal to pay it forward and give back to the community through her work. In 2018 this dream became a reality with the creation of the Design Forward pro bono division of the firm. Tom again was there to support Betsy during this new phase of the business and provide financial advice throughout the initial set up and expansion of the new division.
Through Design Forward, Betsy and her team complete design work for nonprofit organizations, allowing them to better serve their community and deepen their impact. This work has become incredibly valuable to the community and in 2023 they received a Twin Cities Business Community Impact Award.
